Melanoleuca fumidella (Peck) Murrill
Agaricus (Tricholoma) fumidellus Peck, Bull. Buffalo Soc Nat. Sci. 1: 44. 1873.
Pileus convex, then expanded, subumbonate, 2.5-5 cm. broad; surface smooth, moist, at times rimose-areolate, dingywhite or clay-color clouded with brown, becoming paler when dried, disk darker than margin; lamellae close, subventricose, whitish; spores 4.5X3.5ju; stipe equal, smooth, solid, splitting readily, whitish, 5-7.5 cm. long, 4-6 mm. thick.
Type locality: New Scotland, New York.
Habitat: On the ground in woods.
Distribution: New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, and North Carolina.
