Tricholoma lugubre Peck, Ann. Rep. N. Y. State Mus. 49: 16. 1896.
Pileus convex, often irregular or repand, usually cespitose, 4-8 cm. broad; surface moist, glabrous, smoky-brown or grayish-brown, margin involute; context white; lamellae almost free, close, narrow, whitish; spores globose, 6 n; stipe short, glabrous, white, solid.
Type locality: Deans Mills, New York. Habitat: Under hemlocks. Distribution: New York.
