Aloe aristata ist eine Pflanzenart der Gattung der Aloen in der Unterfamilie der Affodillgewächse (Asphodeloideae). Das Artepitheton aristata stammt aus dem Lateinischen, bedeutet ‚begrannt‘ und verweist auf die grannenartigen Blattspitzen der Art.[1]
Aloe aristata wächst stammlos, nur selten einzeln und bildet in der Regel dichte Klumpen, die aus bis zu zwölf Rosetten bestehen. Ihre 100 bis 150 lanzettlichen grünen Laubblätter laufen in eine lange, trockene, grannenartige Borste aus. Die Blattspreite ist 8 bis 10 Zentimeter lang und 1 bis 1,5 Zentimeter breit. Auf der Blattoberfläche befinden sich zerstreute kleine weiße Flecken, die auf der Unterseite zahlreicher und manchmal mehr oder weniger in Querbändern angeordnet sind. Auf der Blattoberseite befinden sich nahe der Blattspitze mehrere weiche weiße Stachelchen. Auf der Blattunterseite sind die weichen weißen Stachelchen in ein oder zwei Reihen nahe der Blattspitze angeordnet. An den Blatträndern sitzen 1 bis 2 Millimeter voneinander entfernt, 1 bis 2 Millimeter lange weiche weiße Zähne.
Der nur gelegentlich einfache Blütenstand besteht in der Regel aus zwei bis sechs Zweigen und erreicht eine Höhe von 50 Zentimetern. Die aus 20 bis 30 Einzelblüten bestehende lockere, fast kopfige Traube ist 15 bis 20 Zentimeter lang und 12 bis 15 Zentimeter breit. Ihre Brakteen sind 11 bis 12 Millimeter lang. Die an der Oberseite jaspisroten und an der Unterseite helleren Blüten werden von 35 Millimeter langen Blütenstielen getragen. Sie sind 40 Millimeter lang, an ihrer Basis gerundet und weisen auf der Höhe des Fruchtknotens einen Durchmesser von 7 Millimeter auf. Darüber sind die Blüten leicht auf 6 Millimeter verengt und zur Mündung hin erweitert. Die äußeren Perigonblätter sind auf einer Länge von 7 Millimetern nicht miteinander verwachsen. Die Staubblätter und der Griffel ragen 1 bis 2 Millimeter aus der Blütenhülle heraus.
Die Chromosomenzahl für Aloe aristata ist 2 n = 14 {displaystyle 2n=14} 
Aloe aristata ist in den südafrikanischen Provinzen Nordkap, Westkap, Ostkap, Freistaat und KwaZulu-Natal sowie in Lesotho auf sandigen Ebenen bis grasigen Berghängen verbreitet.
Die Erstbeschreibung durch Adrian Hardy Haworth wurde 1825 veröffentlicht.[3] Synonyme sind Aloe longiaristata Schult. & Schult.f. (1829), Aloe aristata var. leiophylla Baker (1880), Aloe aristata var. parviflora Baker (1896) und Aloe ellenbergii Guillaumin (1934).

Aristaloe is a genus of evergreen flowering perennial plants in the family Asphodelaceae from Southern Africa. Its sole species is Aristaloe aristata,[3] known as guinea-fowl aloe or lace aloe.
This species is known locally as "serelei" (Sesotho for "slippery one") or "langnaaldaalwyn" (Afrikaans for "lacey aloe"). In English it is usually known as the "lace aloe" or "guinea-fowl aloe".
The species was described by Adrian Hardy Haworth. Its species name "aristata" comes from the Latin for "bristly" or "awned", and refers to the lacy edges of the leaves. Its generic name has the same etymology. Recent phylogenetic studies have demonstrated that the genus Aloe is polyphyletic and that this unusual species is not in fact an aloe, but is more closely related to Astroloba and to the four "Robustipedunculares" species of Haworthia. It has therefore been moved to its own genus, Aristaloe, to account for its separate ancestry and genetic uniqueness.[4]
It is stemless, sawtoothed and succulent. The soft succulent leaves grow in rosettes, in a dense and imbricate arrangement.[5] The leaves are lanceolate in shape, with bristly margins and a long thread-like tip (aristate).
Its nectar-rich, tubular orange flowers tend to attract birds, bees, and wasps easily. When not in bloom, it is similar to and often confused with some other species, such as Haworthiopsis fasciata.[6]
It is indigenous to South Africa and Lesotho. Its natural range extends from the Karoo region of the Northern Cape and Eastern Cape Provinces of South Africa, eastwards through the Free State and Lesotho, as far as the borders of Kwazulu-Natal Province.
Within such a wide range, this adaptable little species inhabits a range of environments, from the dry, sandy Nama Karoo, to the high grasslands and cold mountain slopes of Lesotho, and the shady forested valleys of KwaZulu-Natal.[7]
It is commonly cultivated as a garden plant around the world. It prefers well-drained soils, but can tolerate a range of rainfall systems. It can also tolerate temperatures down to -7 °C, due to its adaptation to cold mountain tops. However it may need to be grown indoors or under glass in extremely cold temperate regions, to give it some winter heat. This clumping species readily produces large numbers of off-sets, which can be separated and planted as a means of propagation.
It has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.[8]

L'espèce a été décrite en 1825 par le botaniste britannique Adrian Hardy Haworth (1767-1833). Son épithète spécifique signifie « barbu »[3].
Cette plante fait partie du genre Aloe. En classification phylogénétique APG III (2009) ce genre fait partie de la famille des Xanthorrhoeaceae, dans l'ordre des Asparagales. En classification classique de Cronquist (1981) il était assigné à celle des Aloeaceae, dans l'ordre des Liliales.
