Nepenthes chaniana C. Clarke, Chi. C. Lee & S. McPherson

Nepenthes chaniana ist eine fleischfressende Pflanze aus der Gattung der Kannenpflanzen (Nepenthes) und ist heimisch in Sabah, Borneo. Sie wurde von Charles Clarke im Jahr 2006 erstbeschrieben und galt bisher als Form von Nepenthes pilosa.

Beschreibung

Nepenthes chaniana unterscheidet sich von Nepenthes pilosa durch eine dichte, lange weiße Behaarung. Die Kannen von Nepenthes chaniana sind zylindrisch und weißlich-gelb, die von Nepenthes pilosa runder und breiter.

Verbreitung und Habitat

Nepenthes chaniana ist endemisch im Hochland von Sabah auf Borneo, der Holotyp wurde auf 1630 Metern Höhe gesammelt.

Systematik und Etymologie

Lange Zeit wurde Nepenthes chaniana als Nepenthes pilosa taxiert, erst Clarke teilte sie 2006 als eigene Art ab, der von ihm gesammelte Holotyp stammt vom Gunung Alab im Crocker Range National Park. Neben der dichten Behaarung und der unterschiedlichen Kannenform differiert auch das Verbreitungsgebiet, Nepenthes pilosa findet sich nur auf Kalimantan.

Das Epitheton ehrt Sabahan Datuk CL Chan, den Verwaltungsdirektor des Verlagshauses Natural History Publications auf Borneo, der zentrale Werke von Clarke über die Kannenpflanzen veröffentlichte.

Nepenthes chaniana (/nɪˈpɛnθiːz ˌtʃæniˈɑːnə/; after Datuk Chan Chew Lun, Managing Director of Natural History Publications) is a tropical pitcher plant species belonging to the genus Nepenthes. It is characterised by a dense indumentum of long, white hairs. Pitchers are cylindrical and mostly white to yellow in colouration. Nepenthes chaniana belongs to the loosely defined "N. maxima complex", which also includes, among other species, N. boschiana, N. epiphytica, N. eymae, N. faizaliana, N. fusca, N. klossii, N. maxima, N. platychila, N. stenophylla, and N. vogelii.^[3]

Cultivated plants of this species were for a long time misidentified as N. pilosa. While N. pilosa is endemic to Kalimantan, N. chaniana is native to Sabah and Sarawak (Bukit Batu Lawi and other mountains). The pitchers of N. pilosa are rounder and broader in shape than those of N. chaniana.

The type specimen of N. chaniana was collected by Charles Clarke on Mount Alab, the highest peak in Crocker Range National Park.

Natural hybrids

• ? N. albomarginata × N. chaniana^[4]
• N. chaniana × N. veitchii^[5][6]

Plants identified by Charles Clarke^[5][7] as a hybrid between N. chaniana (known as N. pilosa at the time)^[2] and N. lowii are now thought to represent N. fusca × N. lowii.^[6]
