Actinia equina (Linnaeus 1758)

Brief Summary ( холандски; фламански )

Ecomare

Brief Summary ( холандски; фламански )

Ecomare

Brief Summary ( англиски )

Ecomare
Just like jellyfish, sea anemones catch all kinds of marine animals using their tentacles. These tentacles contain cnidocytes, cells used for defending and for catching prey by stinging. Sometimes, people refer to sea anemones as flowering animals because they look so much like flowers. Contrary to flowers, they are often renowned predators, which small fish, zooplankton and crustaceans prefer not to get too close to. Along the Dutch coast and seawater you can find beadlet anemones, plumose anemones, dahlia anemones, mud sagartias and small snakelocks anemones.

Brief Summary ( англиски )

The beadlet anemone is a compact sea anemone with a smooth body and short, thick tentacles. It lives on areas that are exposed during low tide. When exposed, it retracts its tentacles, making it look like a ball of black-brown mucus. It has blue knobs filled with poison just under the tentacles, which it spouts when touched. This toxin is not poisonous for people. The beadlet anemone may appear lazy however anemones are known for vicious fighting among themselves. They keep competitors at a distance with their extra long fighting tentacles.
