Acanthosporine septate gregarine, epimerite a conical papilla with an obtuse point; or simple, knob-shaped, papilla-like, or crateriform, with partial septa around it; oocysts biconical or ellipsoidal, with polar and equatorial spines, liberated from the gametocyst by simple rupture of the gametocyst wall; in insects; type species: A. pileata.
