Description. 1.5 mm long. Cuticle of peraeon striated, of cephalon scaled. Antenna 1 elongate, apical segment tipped with many setae and as long as three proximal ones. Short apical segment also with tuft of many setae. No scales or teeth present. Antenna 2 extends caudally to pleonal segment 2 or 3; first of five flagellar articles longest. Coxal extensions with acutely posterolateral borders; teeth absent. All peraeopods bulbous with long scales present on inner propodal and apical meral borders. Pleopods biramus. Endopod and exopod on pleopod 1 with four large setae on each. Endopod with three, exopod with two long setae on pleopod 5. Pleotelson w with scale notch on each proximal lateral margin; apex with two scales and medial groove. Endopod of uropod almost twice as long as exopod, both mounted on short basis. Two large setae on apex of endopod, three on exopod. The species name truncatus, from the Latin, refers to the truncate nature of the pleotelson.
Type locality. 10-835: 62°04'S, 75°18'W; 61°52'S, 75°14'W; 915 m. Holotype and nine paratypes.

Cryptonus truncatus is een pissebed uit de familie Cryptoniscoidea incertae sedis. De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1977 door Schultz.[1]
