Nīoi may prove to year round bloomers, at least under cultivation. The entire flower, including the stamens, are about the size of a dime (10 cents US). The hard wood was fashioned into kapa (tapa) beaters by early Hawaiians. The fruits are edible and have a somewhat sweet to bland or bitter taste.
