Plants forming small to large, open colonies, acaulescent or occasionally caulescent and arborescent; rosettes usually small, asymmetrical. Stems procumbent, to 0.4 m. Leaf blade divergent, spreading, linear or somewhat wider near middle, mostly straight, flattened or plano-convex, 25–65 × (0.3–)0.7–1.5 cm, soft, rigid, margins entire, becoming filiferous, whitish or light green. Inflorescences paniculate, racemose distally, arising 2–4.6 dm beyond rosettes, ovoid, 4.5–13 dm, distance from leaf tips to proximal inflorescence branches more than twice leaf length when fully expanded, glabrous; raceme 20–25 cm; proximal branches 15–25 cm; bracts erect; peduncle scapelike, 1–2 m, less than 2.5 cm diam. Flowers pendent; perianth hemispheric; tepals distinct, pale greenish white, thin, 2.5–4.8 × 1.1–2.6 cm, apex acute; filaments 1.7–2.2 cm, pubescent; anthers 3.2 mm; pistil slender, cylindric, 2.5–3.8 × 0.5–0.6 cm; style whitish or pale green, 8–11 mm; stigmas lobed. Fruits erect, capsular, dehiscent, oblong-cylindric, deeply constricted near middle, (3.5–)4.6–6.3 × (1.5–)2.5–4.3 cm, dehiscence septicidal. Seeds glossy black, thin, 10–15 mm diam.

Yucca constricta (englischer Trivialname: Buckley Yucca) ist eine Pflanzenart der Gattung der Palmlilien (Yucca) in der Familie der Spargelgewächse (Asparagaceae).

Beschreibung

Yucca constricta wächst solitär, stammlos oder mit Stämmen von 0,5 bis 1 Meter Höhe, oder gruppenbildend. Die flexiblen, grasartigen, biegsamen, fein faserigen, grünen bis blaugrünen Laubblätter sind 20 bis 50 cm lang und bis 1,5 cm breit.

Der in den Blättern beginnende, verzweigte Blütenstand ragt weit über die Blätter hinaus, wird bis 3 Meter hoch und bietet während der Blütezeit einen imposanten Anblick. Die röhrenförmigen Blüten weisen eine Länge von 2,5 bis 4 cm und einen Durchmesser von 1,5 bis 2 cm auf. Die sechs gleichgestaltigen Blütenhüllblätter sind weiß bis cremefarben. Die Blütezeit ist im Mai.

Vorkommen

Yucca constricta ist in Texas endemisch in der Chihuahua-Wüste vom südöstlichen Edwards Plateau südwärts in Richtung Golf von Mexiko in Ebenen und auf flachen steinigen Hügeln in Höhenlagen zwischen 280 und 1230 Metern verbreitet. Diese Art wächst oft vergesellschaftet mit verschiedenen Kakteenarten.

Yucca constricta ist in Mitteleuropa mit Schutz in den Wintermonaten frosthart bis minus 18 °C. Sie ist in Sammlungen selten.

Systematik

Diese Art ist mit Yucca campestris nahe verwandt und beide zeigen teilweise morphologische Ähnlichkeiten mit den Ostküstenvertretern der Serie Filamentosae Yucca filamentosa und Yucca flaccida. Er ist ein Vertreter der Sektion Chaenocarpa Serie Glaucae.

Die Erstbeschreibung durch Samuel Botsford Buckley ist 1863 veröffentlicht worden.[1]

Descripción

Yucca constricta es normalmente acaulescente (sin tronco), a veces crecen en racimos, separadas por tallos rastreros. Los tallos florales llegan alcanzan un tamaño de 50 cm con flores colgantes de color blanco verdoso. La fruta es una seca cápsula con semillas de color negro brillante.[3][4][5][2][6][7]

Taxonomía

Yucca constricta fue descrita por Samuel Botsford Buckley y publicado en Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia 14(1): 8. 1862[1863].[8]

Etimología

Yucca: nombre genérico que fue nombrado por Carlos Linneo y que deriva por error de la palabra taína: yuca (escrita con una sola "c").[9]

constricta: epíteto latíno que significa "constreñida".[10]
