Present in the mesopsammon, from 0.3 and 1 m; salinity 16-18 ‰.
Marine, Brackish
Body fusiform, subcylindrical; cuticle with greyish light-refracting punctuation. Head c. 1/4 total length. Rostrum small. Trunk with pseudosegments and latero-dorsal folds. Tail prominent, keeled, projecting beyond basal third of foot pseudosegment. Foot long, ± cylindrical, a single pseudosegment. Toes relatively short, c. 1/6 total length, stout, slightly decurved ventrally, with rod-shaped light-refracting body. Eyespots absent. Subcerebral glands present. Gastric glands globular. Pedal glands slightly stalked, foot length.
Trophi small. Rami simple, inner margins without teeth; alulae absent. Fulcrum short, c. 1/3 ramus length, posterior end strongly expanded, in lateral view only slightly expanded. Unci single-toothed, short, stout, with triangular lamella. Manubria short, less incus length, anterior end slightly expanded with large and smaller lamella, posterior end slightly incurved. Epipharynx 2 delicate, ± trapezoid, pharyngeal plates.
Length 240-260 µm, toe 28-30 µm; trophi 23-24 µm: ramus 13-14 µm, fulcrum 56 µm, manubrium 14-15 µm.
Dicranophorus bulgaricus is een soort in de taxonomische indeling van de raderdieren (Rotifera).
Het dier behoort tot het geslacht Dicranophorus en behoort tot de familie Dicranophoridae. De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort werd voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1957 door Althaus.
