Ruellia just opening
Description:
So-called Carolina Wild Petunia, Ruellia carolinensis, one of the few naturally-occurring native wildflowers in my suburban Piedmont yard. Also called simply Ruellia. I let volunteers come up most anywhere in leaf litter or mulch beds. The flowers open each morning and fall off before the end of the day. I noticed this one just opening in the morning, and it made an interesting subject. I stopped down to f16 for this one, which gave me some depth-of-field with a 100 mm lens. The downside was the revelation of a lot of sensor dust, which is brought out by the small f-stop. I had to clone or blur it out with Photoshop--a pain.Links:USDA PlantsRuellia_carolinenesisPCCA20070601-2758A
