Plants (1–)6–7+ dm. Leaves mostly basal at flowering; blades oblanceolate, 9–14(–20+) cm × 20–35(–45+) mm (including petioles), abaxial faces pilose to hirsute, adaxial sparsely pilose to hirsute. Bracts rounded-deltate to lance-deltate, 8–12+ × 6–8+ mm. Inner phyllaries 6–8 mm, ± densely strigose to villous, hairs (0.3–)0.5–1 mm. Cypselae 3–3.5 mm; pappi 3–4 mm. 2n = 22.

Elephantopus elatus intermedins Gleason, Bull. Torrey Club 46: 252. 1919.
Stems erect, rather sparingly branched, 5-10 dm. tall, leafless or with 1 or 2 cauline leaves, hirsute-pubescent, especially above; blades of the basal leaves spatulate to elliptic or oblong, 12-25 cm. long, 3-6 cm. wide, obtuse, crenate, thinly papillose-pilose above, more or less pilose on the lower surface and densely comose with stout ascending hairs on the veins; cauline leaves much reduced, seldom more than 5 cm. long; glomerules very loosely corymbed,10-15 mm. high, about equaled by the broadly ovate or triangular, short-acuminate, densely grayhirsute bracts; involucral scales 5.5-S mm. long, densely hirsute with erect white hairs concealing the surface: achenes 3.5-4 mm. long: pappus-bristles 3.5-4.5 mm. long, dilated below into a narrowly triangular base.
Type Locality: Alabama.
Distribution: South Carolina to Florida, Louisiana, and southern Arkansas.

Elephantopus elatus, ye una especie de planta fanerógama perteneciente a la familia de les asteracees.

Distribución

Ye nativa del sudeste d'Estaos Xuníos dende l'este de Luisiana a Carolina del Sur.[1]

Descripción

Elephantopus elatus ye una planta perenne yerbácea qu'algama un tamañu d'hasta 70 cm d'altor. Les fueyes son oblanceolaes, d'hasta 20 cm de llargu, más escura na parte cimera de lo que son na parte inferior. La planta produz numberoses pequeñes cabeces de flores nun apertáu grupu, cada cabeza contién xeneralmente namái 4-5 floretes.[2][3][4]

Propiedaes

Elephantopus elatus contién el principiu activu elefantopina.[5]

La elefantopina que ye un germacranólido lactona sesquiterpénica que contién dos aniellos de lactona y un grupu funcional epóxido, y demostró tener una actividá antitumoral.[6][7]

Taxonomía

Elephantopus elatus describióse por Antonio Bertoloni y espublizóse en Memorie della Reale Accademia delle Scienze dell' Istituto di Bologna 2: 607. 1850.[8]

Etimoloxía

Elephantopus: nome xenéricu que deriva de les pallabres griegues: elephantos = "elefante", y pous = "pie"; probablemente n'alusión a les rosetes de grandes fueyes basales.[9]

elatus: epítetu llatín que significa "alta".[10]

Descripción

Elephantopus elatus es una planta perenne herbácea que alcanza un tamaño de hasta 70 cm de altura. Las hojas son oblanceoladas, de hasta 20 cm de largo, más oscura en la parte superior de lo que son en la parte inferior. La planta produce numerosas pequeñas cabezas de flores en un apretado grupo, cada cabeza contiene generalmente sólo 4-5 floretes.[2][3][4]

Propiedades

Elephantopus elatus contiene el principio activo elefantopina.[5]

La elefantopina que es un germacranólido lactona sesquiterpénica que contiene dos anillos de lactona y un grupo funcional epóxido, y ha demostrado tener una actividad antitumoral.[6][7]

Taxonomía

Elephantopus elatus fue descrita por Antonio Bertoloni y publicado en Memorie della Reale Accademia delle Scienze dell' Istituto di Bologna 2: 607. 1850.[8]

Etimología

Elephantopus: nombre genérico que deriva de las palabras griegas: elephantos = "elefante", y pous = "pie"; probablemente en alusión a las rosetas de grandes hojas basales.[9]

elatus: epíteto latíno que significa "alta".[10]
