Stibasoma chionostigma (Osten Sacken 1886)

This species has been reared from larvae collected in the water-holding leaves of arboreal bromeliads by Guillermo Chaverri (INBio).

Distribucion en Costa Rica:
Distribucion General: Mexico to Colombia.

Females feed on the blood of mammals.

Found in the water-holding leaves of epiphytic arboreal bromeliads.

hind tibiae without apical spurs; basicosta without strong setae; third antennal segment with a strong dorsobasal forward pointing spine; eyes bare; hairy bee-like species with fore tibiae inflated; long hair fringes present on at least the hind tibiae; apical palpomere swollen; labella shiny and sclerotized; wing predominantly black or brown, but with a prominent yellow hyaline patch from the costa to and including the discal cell and apex beyond the tip of veins R2+3 hyaline (females) or with basal cells to posterior margin of the wing also hyaline (males); abdomen black or brown above, but with all sternites with broad yellow-haired hind margins (females) or tergite 2 yellowish and yellow pilose and sternites 1-4 yellow and yellow pilose (males).

Stibasoma chionostigma adolah sabuah spesies Tabanidae. Spesies ko juo marupokan bagian dari ordo Diptera, kelas Insecta, filum Arthropoda, dan kingdom Animalia.

Lalek kudo dewasa mahisok nektar dan kadang-kadang sarbuak sari. Betino dari kabanyakan spesies adolah anautojenik, nan artinyo butuah mahisok darah sabalun mampu untuak bareproduksi sacaro efektif. Telua dilatakkan di ateh batu atau vegetasi biasonyo balansuang dakek jo aia misalnyo kolam ranang.
