Uredo Cannae Wint. Hedwigia 23: 172. 1884. Puccinia Thaliae Dietel, Hedwigia 38: 250. 1899. Puccinia Cannae P. Henn. Hedwigia 41: 105. 1902.
O and I. Pycnia and aecia unknown.
II. Uredinia chiefly hypophyllous, few to many, scattered, rounded or oblong, 0.30.5 mm. wide by 0.3-1 mm. long, located under the second layer of surface cells, sometimes with weakly developed stroma, tardily naked, pulverulent, palegolden, ruptured epidermis evident; turediniospores ellipsoid or obovoid, often angular and irregular, 18-24 by 27-43 ju; wall nearly hyaline, 1-2 m thick, moderately or rather sparsely echinulate, the pores usually obscure, sometimes showing as 2, approximately equatorial.
III. Telia chiefly hypophyllous, few to many, scattered Or sometimes surrounding the uredinia, irregularly circular or oblong, small, 0.2-0.5 mm. across, situated below the second layer of host-cells, tardily naked, blackish, overlying epidermis transparent and inconspicuous; teliospores oblong-clavate or cylindric, rounded or truncate above, not or only slightly constricted at septum, 13-23 m wide by 39-78 /x long; wall cinnamon-brown, often appearing paler below, 1 ju thick, thickened at apex, 2-7 ii, smooth; pedicel short, light cinnamon-brown, up to 20 JU long.
