Sori in leaves, forming subcircular to more irregular and often indefinite areas, generally dark-brown, 2-5 mm., usually limited in number and killing more or less of the surrounding tissue; spores hyaline to yellowish or even light chestnut-brown, ovoid to spherical or somewhat polyhedral, smooth, usually with remains of the gelatinous hypha forming outer coat of the thick wall, 12-17 /^ or in some cases even 20 ^ in length ; evidence of conidia usually lacking.
