Clitopilus socialis Peck, Bull. N. Y. State Mus. 5: 648. 1899.
Pileus thin, convex, deeply umbilicate, closely gregarious, 1-2 cm. broad; surface grayishbrown; lamellae thin, moderately crowded, decurrent, concolorous when young, grayishincarnate when mature; spores irregular, uninucleate, subglobose, 7.5-10 X 6-7.5 /i; stipe equal, stuffed or hollow, concolorous or a little paler, 1.2-2.5 cm. long, 2-4 mm. thick.
Type locaIvITy: Delmar, New York. Habitat: Under pine and hemlock trees. Distribution: Known only from the type locality.
