Description: Amanita wellsii (Murrill) Murrill Image location: Splashdam Pond, Pennsylvania, USA This collection was made by my wife, who visited the area to pick cranberries. The gills were distinctly yellow. Second photo, which was taken indoors under fluorescent light best approximates the color… although perhaps a bit too vivid. First two photos taken indoors, last three outdoors one day after collection. Grains on gill edges interesting. These were not collected from an area with sandy soil. So I don’t think the grains originated in the substrate. Same location as
obs 16428. Cranberry bushes, shrubs, small gray birch, very small native spruce. Edit: Add: Blueberry bushed present (only a few). Recognized by sight
