Perennial herb up to 55 cm tall, growing from a woody rootstock, covered in dense greyish-buff indumentum. Basal leaves up to 17 × 5.5 cm, ovate-oblong; apex pointed or mucronate; margin crenate all the way to the clasping base; stem leaves ± oblong, 4-8 cm long, sessile, sometimes auriculate. Capitula forming a dense corymbose terminal head. Involucral bracts shining yellow, 3-4-seriate, up to 7 mm long, lanceolate, acuminate. Florets yellow.
