A shrub 1-3 m. high, the bark of older branches dark-brown, that of the somewhat pubescent and glandular young twigs pale-brown. Leaves thin, suborbicular in outline, 2-5 cm. broad, 3-lobed, glabrous or very nearly so above, puberulent on the veins beneath, both surfaces bearing sessile glands, the lobes rounded, crenate-dentate, the slender pubescent petioles bearing shortstalked glands ; racemes as long as the leaves or shorter, 3-10-
flowered ; peduncles puberulent and with short-stalked glands ; bracts obovate, pubescent
and glandular-ciliate, 3-5 mm. long; pedicels filiform, 6-10 mm. long; ovary with a few
stalked glands; hypanfhium 3^ mm. long, pubescent, deep-red, slightly exceeded by the
deep-red pubescent sepals ; stamens half the length of the sepals, about as long as the red
petals, the oblong anthers tipped by a depressed gland ; berry black, glabrous.
Type locality : Mount Mohinora, Chihuahua. Distribution : Chihuahua and Durango.

Ribes ceriferum is a Mexican species of currants. It has been found in only a small number of locations in the States of Durango and Chihuahua. Some of the known populations lie inside Parque Nacional Cascada de Basaseachic (Basaseachic Falls National Park) in Chihuahua and Parque Natural de Mexiquillo (Mexiquillo Natural Park) in Durango.

Ribes ceriferum is a shrub up to 3 meters (10 feet) tall. The berries are black and hairless.
