Cathartolinum bracei Small, sp. nov Annual, light green or somewhat glaucescent, glabrous, the stem simple below or sparingly branched at the base, corymbosely branched above, 1.5-3.5 dm. tall, somewhat striate in age, the branches ascending, dichotomous, very slender ; leaves few, distant, ascending, alternate above the lower part of the stem, the blades thinnish, spatulate to oblong-linear, 6-14 mm. long, acute or acutish, entire, glabrous, ciliate, slightly paler beneath than above ; bracts lanceolate, glandular-toothed ; outer sepals oval or oblong-ovate, becoming 3.5-4 mm. long, evenly glandular-toothed, acute; inner sepals ovate, slightly shorter than the outer, acute, evenly toothed like the outer; petals yellow; filaments pubescent below the middle or near the base ; staminodia deltoid, ciliate ; ovary glabrous ; stvles distinct ; capsules depressed, about 2 mm. long and about equaling the sepals.
Type collected at West End, Great Bahama, April 16 to May 8, 1905, L.J. K. Brace 3513. Distribution : Northern Bahamas.

Perennial, glaucous, the stems simple or branched at the base and somewhat corymbosely branched above, the branches ascending, like the stem glabrous and prominently ridged at least in age ; leaves mostly approximate, erect or ascending, the blades thick, linear to linear-lanceolate, 5-12 mm. long, acute or abruptly pointed, glabrous, eciliate, pale on both sides ; bracts lanceolate to subulate, glandular-toothed ; outer sepals ovate to oblong-ovate, 3-3.5 mm. long at maturity, acute or slightly acuminate, evenly glandulartoothed ; inner sepals slightly shorter than the outer, acuminate and more finely toothed ; petals yellow ; filaments pubescent below the middle ; staminodia lanceolate, ciliate ; ovary glabrous; styles distinct, glabrous; capsules ovoid, about 2 mm. long, about equaling the sepals.
Type locality : Lake Waterloo, near Nassau, Bahama Islands. Distribution : Bahama Islands.
