Description of Foaina ( anglais )

fourni par BioPedia
Small devescovinids (6-54 µm) with three long anterior flagella and a trailing flagellum thicker than normal and longer than the body. Anterior papilla linked to the proximal part of the three anterior flagella. Cresta of variable length, reaching the end of the body in one species. Parabasal body ellipsoid or rod-shape applied on the nucleus, never coiled around the axostyle. Axostyle well developed, usually projecting at the rear, capitulum containing the nucleus. Ultrastructural study of the two species of Foaina in Kalotermes flavicollis have shown the specific structures of the recurrent flagellum, cresta, and parabasal found in the Devescovinidae (Brugerolle, 1975-76). The 25 species described occur in Kalotermitidae (Kirby, 1942b; GrassÚ, 1952a). The genera Crucinympha Kirby, Janickiella Duboscq & GrassÚ, and Paradevescovina Kirby have been put in synonymy with Foaina by Kirby (1942b). EM study by Lavette, 1971a. Type species: Foaina gracilis Janicki 1915.
