Description of Eucomonympha ( anglais )

fourni par BioPedia
Hypermastigid with an acorn-shaped body (100-165 µm) living in Cryptocercus punctulatus. Anterior rostrum only separated from the post-rostral portion by a slight constriction. Rostrum terminated by a cap not limited by a pelta-axostylar microtubular row and without inner cap. Flagella covering all the body, those of the rostrum longer than others (different than Trichonympha). There are as many rows in the rostrum as in the post-rostral portion, but the rows are not continuous. The rostral tube is ampulla-shaped, and the two hemi-rostral plates are thin. These plates are striated and divide, giving parabasal fibres, which follow the rows of basal bodies extending into the post-rostral region. The ectoplasm of the cell body contains: long basal bodies, parabasal fibres associated with the proximal end of the basal bodies, dictyosomes between the basal bodies, and numerous hydrogenosomes. Axostylar fibres follow the rows of basal bodies in the rostrum and form long bundles around the nucleus and extend posteriorly in the endoplasm. At division two atractophores form and polarize the spindle. The rostrum splits into two hemi-rostra, each of which grows to a complete rostrum. Monospecific. Light microscopy by Cleveland et al. (1934) and Cleveland (1950). EM by Hollande and Carruette-Valentin (1971). Type species: Eucomonympha imla Cleveland, Hall, Sanders & Collier, 1934.
