Silene villosa Forsk.

Silene villosa grows in sandy habitats. Primarily in the desert. But also in the Mediterranrean coastal plain in Israel. WE were lucky to see it in the extreme desert in the morning, after 10:00 the flowers wilt.

Silene villosa is an annual growing in the sands of the Mediterranean coasts and the inner deserts of Israel. U can see that it is covered with sticky hairs, sand grains stick to the hairs, preventing additional grains that are wind blown, from injuring the plant.

This is a delightful annual that blooms in desert and coastal sands, tyhe flowers are fully open only in the night.

It was wonderful to see carpets of this beautiful annaul in the desert, it was exceptionally rainy this year.
