Perennial, aromatic herbs. Leaves alternate, decurrent. Inflorescence of 3-6 capitula crowded together in an umbel at the ends of the branches. Florets purple. Capitula ovoid-campanulate, heterogamous; bisexual florets in the centre of the capitulum, fewer than the outer female florets. Receptacular scales 0. Anthers minutely tailed. Style undivided or with a minute notch, with tubercle-based hairs. Achenes cylindric with 5 ribs (in ours). Pappus 0 in the female florets, of 2-3 smooth bristles in the bisexual florets or sometimes 0.
