Calliandra Pittieri Standley, Contr. U. S. Nat. Herb. 18: 104. 1916.
A tree, 5-8 m. high, with slender, glabrous or slightly pubescent twigs. Stipules linearlanceolate, about 3 mm. long; petioles 1-2 cm. long; pinnae 7-#15 pairs, the slender rachis and rachillas short-pilose; leaflets 20-65 pairs, linear, 3-5 ram. long, acute or obtuse, ciliolate sr glabrous, faintly shining, reticulate-veined beneath; the midvein nearly central; peduncles 1.5-4.5 cm. long, sparingly pubescent; heads few-flowered; flowers glabrous or puberulent; calyx 1-1.5 mm. long; corolla 5-6 mm. long; stamens 2-3 cm. long, pink, at least above, their tube included; legume 5-S cm. long, 9-11 ram. wide, long-attenuate to the base, puberulent, its apex short-tipped.
Type locality: La Esmeralda, near Jamiindi, Canca Valley, Colombia. Distribution: Panama and Colombia.
