Ye un árbol con flores de color rosáu y blancu, de 15 a 30 m d'altu y hasta 1,5 m de diámetru. Floriamientu d'avientu a mayu. Riego regular, reproducción por frada. Ye nativa del sur de Méxicu, El Salvador, Guatemala, Hondures.
Les flores y la corteza utilizar na medicina tradicional. Les granes contienen un aceite que s'emplega con fines de llume y pa la fabricación de xabón[1]

The tree is native to southern Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Hispaniola, Honduras and Cuba.
Pseudobombax elipticum is a tree that can reach 18 m (60 ft) in height and 1.3 m (4 ft) d.b.h. Its branches are close to the base of the stem. It is a deciduous tree with succulent stems. Each of the flowers can produce hundreds of tiny black seeds (.1mm) that germinate within approximately 30 days.
The flowers are fragrant and if peeled back quite sticky.
Uses include firewood and wood for carving handicrafts.
The attractive flowers are used to decorate homes and churches in Central America.[1] In Central America, a highly intoxicating drink is made from the tree.[2]
The tree is grown as an ornamental tree in Florida, Hawaii, and coastal Southern California.

De wetenschappelijke naam werd in 1943 gepubliceerd door Armando Dugand als combinatio nova voor Bombax ellipticum, beschreven door Karl Sigismund Kunth in 1821.[1]
De boom kan tot 18 meter hoog worden. De stam vertakt dicht bij de grond. De bladeren bestaan uit vijf blaadjes. De bloemen zijn wit of roze.
Het hout wordt gebruikt als brandhout en om er voorwerpen uit te vervaardigen. De zaden kunnen geroosterd worden en gegeten. De bloemen worden in de traditionele geneeskunde gebruikt in een heilzame thee. De vezels van de vruchten zijn gebruikt als kussenvulling en als isolatiemateriaal in koelkasten.[2]
