This species differs from its congeners in having D VI; acute head, without rostral projection or tuberosity in adults; bony plates of caudal peduncle 2; relatively large eye (6.3-7.2% SL); median body depth, 2.8-2.9 in SL; teeth on upper jaw 100-120, on lower jaw 90-110; uniformly brownish body color; relatively small adult size which might not exceed 350 mm SL; and a different genome structure (Ref. 87782).

體呈橢圓形而側扁，體長為體高之2.8-2.9倍；尾柄部有二個盾狀骨板，各有一個龍骨突。頭小，頭背弧形，成魚在前頭部無角狀突起，亦無瘤狀突起。口小，端位，上下頜各具一列齒，齒稍側扁且尖銳，兩側或有鋸狀齒，上頜具齒約100-120顆，下頜約90-110顆。眼大，達標準體長之6.3-7.2%。背鰭具II棘和26-30軟條(主要28)，臀鰭具II棘和26-28軟條(主要27)，各鰭條皆不延長；尾鰭截平或略為內凹，上下葉不延長。體背側褐色至灰綠色，體側無任何斑紋，體腹側略為淡色；鰓膜暗褐色。成魚最大體長約為35公分，小於大部分鼻魚物種。
