體圓而延長，尾部則是側扁。在鰓蓋骨的後面有一尖銳的硬棘，其前鰓蓋骨的下方則有2根小棘。背鰭和臀鰭非常的長，一直延伸至尾鰭部位，相癒合在一起，背鰭
鰭條數99-106，臀鰭鰭條數84-89；腹鰭位於喉部，已經退化成2條延長絲狀；尾鰭鰭條數8。
體呈黃褐色。自背鰭1/3處有6枚的黑斑散布。臀鰭則有4-5枚黑斑。身體上也有和鰭上黑斑相對應的黑色斑紋。

Vissen Neobythites fasciatus is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van naaldvissen (Ophidiidae).[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1913 door Smith & Radcliffe.

它体长可达16.1公分。[2]
