A benthic species (Ref. 58302, 75154) found on the continental shelf and slope (Ref. 75154). Uncommon species found in the deep shelf and upper slope (Ref. 34024). Oviparous, with oval pelagic eggs floating in a gelatinous mass (Ref. 205). Minimum depth reported from Ref. 34024.

體圓而延長，近尾部處則是逐漸側扁。鰓蓋骨和前鰓蓋骨上，沒有任何的硬棘。頭部沒有鱗片，身體上的鱗片比較長，鱗片間的排列相互成直角。背鰭和臀鰭延伸至尾鰭部相癒合在一起；腹鰭為2枚前端相連的鰭條；胸鰭及尾鰭末端圓鈍。體呈淡棕色，上面散布有許多細小的淺黃色斑點。背鰭和臀鰭透明，外緣顏色較深。

主要棲息於大陸棚砂泥底質環境，大約在200公尺左右深度的水層中，以小型魚類及甲殼類為主食。

The blackedge cusk (Ophidion muraenolepis) is a fish species in the family Ophidiidae. It is widespread in the Pacific Ocean from Taiwan and the Arafura Sea to Hawaii, and is a marine subtropical demersal fish, up to 15.5 centimetres (6.1 in) long.
