Diagnostic Description ( anglais )

The filamentous last dorsal fin ray distinguishes this species from members of any other eastern Pacific clupeoid genus. Lower gill rakers 50 to 87 in fishes over 14 cm standard length (intermediate between O. medirastre with 41 to 69 and O. libertate with 63 to 110, but neither of these occur in the Galapagos Islands).

Opisthonema berlangai és una espècie de peix pertanyent a la família dels clupèids.[3]

Descripció

  • Pot arribar a fer 26 cm de llargària màxima (normalment, en fa 18).
  • 13-21 radis tous a l'aleta dorsal i 15-17 a l'anal.[4][5]

Hàbitat

És un peix marí, pelàgic-nerític i de clima tropical (3°N-4°S, 94°W-89°W) que viu entre 0-50 m de fondària.[4][6]

Distribució geogràfica

Es troba al Pacífic sud-oriental: és un endemisme de les illes Galápagos.[4]

Observacions

És inofensiu per als humans.[4]

Opisthonema berlangai is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van haringen (Clupeidae).[2] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1963 door Berry & Barrett.

De soort staat op de Rode Lijst van de IUCN als Kwetsbaar, beoordelingsjaar 2008.[1]
