Protococcidian coccidia; one genus in marine polychaetes; development is extracellular while attached to the gut epithelium; gamonts are helmet-shaped and usually detach from the host epithelium and are expelled externally into the sea water where gametogenesis and sporogenesis occurs; sporozoites occur in the oocyst as fan-shaped clusters where one end of each sporozoite is attached to a residuum; there is no clear delimitation of a sporocyst.

Eleutheroschizonidae is a family of parasites in the order Protococcidiorida. There are three genera currently recognised in this family. All species in this family infect annelids.

The family was created in 1936 by Chatton and Villeneuve.[1]

The type species is Eleutheroschizon duboscqi Brasil 1906.
