Shrubs or trees, 1.5-6 m tall, dioecious or sometimes monoclinous or andromonoecious. Young branchlets 3-4 mm wide in third internode. Leaves 3-foliolate (occasional leaves 1-foliolate), glabrous; petiole 2-6.5 cm; leaflet blades obovate, oblanceolate, or rarely elliptic, in terminal leaflet 5-12 × 2-4.5 cm, apex acuminate or rarely acute. Inflorescences axillary, 3-7 × 2-6 cm; peduncle obsolete or to 1.5 cm. Pedicel 1.5-3 mm and of similar length in fruit, glabrous. Sepals 0.5-0.8 mm, glabrous or with a few trichomes at apex, connate at base or to ± half their length, persistent in fruit. Petals 2.5-3.5 mm, deciduous in fruit. Stamens 8, in male and bisexual flowers those opposite sepals 2-4 mm and in female flowers 0.5-3.5 mm; filaments at least in male and bisexual flowers acute to subulate at apex. Gynoecium glabrous, in female and bisexual flowers 0.8-1.6 mm, in male flowers 0.3-0.5 mm. Fruit follicles subglobose, 3-4.5 mm, glabrous. Seeds ellipsoid to obovoid, 3-4.5 mm, attachment Type A.

Melicope triphylla is a plant in the family Rutaceae. The specific epithet triphylla is from the Greek meaning "three leaf", referring to the trifoliolate leaves.[2]

Description

Melicope triphylla grows up as a shrub or tree up to 15 metres (50 ft) tall. The flowers are unisexual. The ellipsoid to roundish fruits measure up to 0.5 cm (0.2 in) long.[2]

Distribution and habitat

Melicope triphylla grows naturally in the Ryukyu Islands and Taiwan south to Borneo and east to New Guinea.[2][3] In Malaysian Borneo its habitat is forests from sea-level to 1,300 metres (4,300 ft) altitude.[2]

アワダン Mellicope triphylla (Lam.) Merr. は、ミカン科の樹木。葉が三出複葉になる。

特徴[編集]

常緑性低木で、高さは3-5mに達する[1]。小枝は灰色を帯びてざらつき、無毛で、断面はやや四角張る。ただし一年目の枝は緑色[2]は対生し、三出複葉。小葉は倒卵状倒披針形から長楕円状倒披針形で長さ8-9cm、幅3-4cm。葉身は洋紙質で無毛、先端はわずかに突き出し、その先は丸い。基部はくさび形で長さ0.5-1cmの小葉の柄に流れる。小葉柄には長さ2-4cmの葉柄が繋がる。また、葉の裏面には腺点が散在する[3]

花期は6-8月、葉腋から長さ2-5cmの円錐花序を出し、多数の花をつける[4]。萼片は広卵状円形で先端は尖り、長さ幅共に約1mm。花弁は白で卵状披針形、長さ3mmほど。雄蘂は8本、花糸は長さ2-2.5mm、花柱は長さ1mm。果実は斜状倒卵形で長さ5mm。種子は倒卵状楕円形で長さ5mm、黒くて光沢がある。

種小名は「3枚の葉」を意味し、葉が3枚の小葉からなることによる。和名については沖縄の方言に由来するらしいが、その意味は不明とのこと[5]

分布[編集]

与論島以南の琉球列島に分布する。国外では台湾とフィリピンから知られる。
