Tufted stoloniferous perennial; culms up to 40 cm high, erect, Leaf-blades linear to broadly linear, flat, 2-6 cm long, 3-5 mm wide, rigid, acuminate to pungent, glabrous, margins papillose-scabrid. Panicle linear, spiciform, 5-10 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, narrow, interrupted, the branches short, bearing 3-8 densely crowded spike-lets or the spikelets sometimes solitary. Spikelets 8-17-flowered, lanceolate, 7-15 mm long, 4-6 mm wide; glumes ovate, acute, unequal, the lower 3-nerved, 1.5-1.8 mm long, the upper 5-nerved, 2-2.5 mm long; lemmas ovate, mucronate, 9-11-nerved, 3-3.5 mm long, appressed hirsute in the lower half, papillose-scabrid above, margins scarious; anthers 1-1.5 mm long.
