Plants pale green. Leaves coriaceous, shiny, sometimes reddish, 3-5-lobed. Umbellate heads forming a thyrse. Involucre of 4-5 bracts, foliaceous, 3-4 times longer than the flowers; margins spiny. Bractlets pungent, as long as the flowers. Calyx tube scaly; scales broadly ovate, white. Sepals oblong, obtuse, mucronate; mucro shorter than the sepals.
