Liparis rostrata Rchb. fil.

Plants 5-20 cm tall. Pseudobulbs small, ovoid, sheathed. Stem from base of pseudobulb, ± flexuous, sometimes stout. Leaves 2, opposite, petioled, elliptic-ovate to oblong, acute or obtuse, narrowed towards base, blade up to 7-10 x 3-5 cm, petiole 3-7 cm long. Inflorescence lax. Bracts very small, 1-2 mm long; triangular. Flowers falling off easily. Perianth segments spreading or reflexed, sepals dull yellowish-green with some purple, linear-lanceolate, 10 x 1-1.5 mm; petals darker purple, filiform, 10 x 0:15 mm. Labellum from 2-3 mm long, channelled claw expanded into broadly obovate flat blade, green, tinged with lilac, 8 mm broad, margin crenulate-dentate, front slightly truncate, apiculate Column very slender, arched, 4 mm long. Ovary with thin, c. 10 mm long stalk; ripe seed-capsule enlarged.

Distribution: N. W. Himalaya, at elevation between 1500-2900 m. Eastward to Nepal.
