TYPE.—In campo, Diamantina, 14 April 1892, Glaziou 19934 (L, holotype; B, photo; P, isotype).
DISTRIBUTION.—Brazil: Minas Gerais: Diamantina and vicinity.

SPECIMENS EXAMINED.—Glaziou 19934; Riedel s.n.
SURFACE VIEW.—Hairs: few papillae present. Epidermis: cells square to rectangular, thin walled. Stomata: tetracytic, 18 × 12 μm; present on abaxial surface; seen on both surfaces in Glaziou 19934.
TRANSVERSE SECTION OF LAMINA.—Dorsiventral; V-shaped with margins turned very slightly inversely; small median adaxial groove; groove large in Glaziou 19934. Adaxial surface slightly undulating, ridged in Glaziou 19934. Abaxial furrows one-half thickness of blade, furrows almost absent in Glaziou 19934. Epidermis: cells on both surfaces dome shaped to conical. Two to three layers thick-walled parenchyma cells subjacent to epidermis and interspersed with sclerenchyma strands. One to two layers thin-walled parenchyma in Glaziou 19934; few sclerenchyma strands. Another layer of large parenchyma cells above palisade tissue. Cuticle: slightly ridged on both surfaces; cuticle fairly thick. Stomata: present in furrows; substomatal chamber virtually absent. Mesophyll: three layered palisade grading into spongy tissue; cells near abaxial surface more compactly arranged; spongy tissue in Glaziou 19934 completely obliterated in most sections. Large translucent palisade tissue radially oriented above vascular bundles and on furrows. Vascular bundles: 19 in Riedel s.n.; 29 in Glaziou 19934; commissural bundles not observed. One to two vessels larger than others. Two phloem units lying laterally in flanges of Y-shaped abaxial girder. Adaxial cap usually small, rather large in Glaziou 19934. Sclerenchyma strands and isolated fibers forming a layer between abaxial epidermis and a distinct layer of parenchyma cells. Bundle sheath completely surrounding vascular bundles. Crystals and tannins: not observed.
NOTE: The two specimens examined are not identical—a clear indication of misidentification.
