Malpighia setosa Spreng. Neue Entdeck. 3 : 50. 1822 Leaf-blades oval, oblong, or obovate-oblong, 1-3 cm. long, abruptly pointed, undulate, glabrous or nearly so above, at least at maturity, persistently pubescent beneath, rounded or subcordate at the base, short-petioled ; cymes 1-4-flowered, sessile or very short-peduncled ; sepals ovate, 2-3 mm. long, the glands fully one half the length of the sepal-body ; corolla pink, 16-17 mm. wide, the larger petals 9-10 mm. long; drupes globose-pyramidal, about 1 cm. long.
Type locality : Hispaniola. Distribution : Hispaniola.
