The Oak-leaved commiphora was only described in the year 1960. It bears the character of other stubby Namib Desert shrub-trees. The stem can grow to one half metre in diameter, with a height that can reach one metre in height. A resin has historically been extracted from this strange looking plant, one of the uses of which was the production of a perfume for the Himba tribe women. The plant is endemic to the Namib Desert. It has been demonstrated that this commercial scale harvest can be made in a sustainable fashion.
