Cleome suffruticosa (Schinz) is a poorly documented species, thought to be endemic to the Namib Desert, including portions of the desert far inland. Hogan has found the species along some of the dry river beds in the north-central Namib Desert. Other sightings have included similar habitat settings in the south-central Namib Desert and in mountain drainages that are dessicated for the preponderance of the time.

Shrubby Cleome (Cleome suffruticosa) is widely distributed in Namibia, especially in more arid areas. Although generally to be considered endemic to Namibia, it it is possible that it occurs in Angola as well. (NamibRand Nature Reserve Herbarium online)
