Mascagnia gouania Small, sp. nov
Leaf-blades ovate to orbicular-ovate, mostly 4-7 cm. long, markedly acuminate, glabrous or nearly so, at least at maturity, slightly paler-green beneath than above, truncate or cordate at the base, rather long-petioled ; sepals ovate or oval-ovate, 3-3.5 mm. long, glabrous, or with few scattered hairs on the back and sparingly ciliolate, the glands full}' one half the length of the sepal-body ; petals purplish, 5-6.5 mm. long, with undulate blades which are sometimes slightly erose near the base ; samaras suborbicular, 2.5-3 cm. wide, undulate and sometimes cordate at the base, the dorsal wing reduced to a mere ridge or keel.
Type collected near Jojutla, Morelos, Mexico, October 18, 1902, C. G. Pringle 9701 (herb. N. Y. Bot. Gard.).
Distribution : Morelos.

Leaf-blades ovate, mostly 2.5-5 cm. long, abruptly short-acuminate, softly pubescent
on both sides, rounded or subcordate at the base, short-petioled ; sepals ovate, the glands
nearly as long as the sepal-body ; petals ' ' blue, ' ' the blades denticulate ; samaras about 1.5
cm. in diameter, the dorsal wing crest-like.
Type locality : Mexico. Distribution : Mexico.
