These flat-bodied parasitic crustaceans cling to fish with their maxillae and suck blood or body fluids. They choose attachment points where turbulence is low and they are unlikely to be dislodged, like behind a fin or gill cover. They swim from host to host using their thoracopods. There are ~130 species known. (Tudge, 2000)
