Description: Head and body grey, posterior and adjacent fins yellow, caudal fin margin black, pectoral-fin base spot black. Caudal fin often with thin black posterior margin (Ref. 48636).

Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).

分布於東印度洋與西太平洋區，包括印尼 (弗洛勒斯與摩鹿加島)、西澳大利亞 (羅雷淺灘)、GBR的北部、珊湖海、巴布亞新幾內亞、索羅門群島、北至菲律賓、台灣與琉球群島。台灣主要發現於南部。

小型之雀鯛，無食用價值。有人將其作觀賞魚之用。

體呈橢圓形而側扁，標準體長為體高之1.8-2.0倍。吻短而鈍圓。口中型；頜齒兩列，小而呈圓錐狀。眶下骨裸出，下緣具極弱鋸齒；眶前骨及眶下骨無缺刻；前鰓蓋骨後緣具鋸齒。體被櫛鱗；鼻部具鱗；側線之有孔鱗片15-17個。背鰭單一，軟條部不延長而略呈角形，硬棘XIII，軟條14-15；臀鰭硬棘II，軟條14-15；胸鰭鰭條16-17；尾鰭叉形，上下葉末端呈圓狀。體呈藍綠色，腹側較淡。胸鰭淡灰色，基部全為黑色；背、臀及尾鰭黃色；尾鰭後緣黑色。

主要棲息於珊瑚礁區外礁斜坡，深度在20-50公尺間；亦常被發現於沙地中的岩石露頭的周圍或沿著50 公尺深有洞穴的礁岩牆活動。以浮游動物與藻類為食。

Pomacentrus nigromarginatus, the blackmargined damsel, is a damselfish from the Western Pacific. It occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade. It grows to a size of 8 cm in length.
