體呈槍尖形；兩眼均在左側；頭背緣輪廓呈弧形。頭小。吻短鈍。下眼稍前於上眼，眼間隔窄，兩眼間有一狹小骨脊；上眼前方具一淺凹。口大，上頜延伸至下眼前緣後方，上頜比眼徑長；上下頜齒小，上下頜在眼及盲側均具頜齒；腭骨無齒。鰓膜不與峽部相連；鰓耙短小不呈鋸齒狀。體被易脫落之小圓鱗，兩側皆被圓鱗，奇鰭鰭條被鱗；眼側具側線，盲側無側線；側線鱗數88-116。背鰭正常，軟條數18-110；臀鰭正常，軟條83-87；胸鰭短於頭長；左右腹鰭不對稱；尾鰭尖圓形。體淡棕色，各鰭色較深暗,
尾鰭中央呈黑色；盲側乳黃色。
