Geographical Range: Monterey Bay to San Diego, California. Similar individuals (larger and more hairy) found north of the Monterey peninsula are considered a separate species:P. hirsutiusculus.
Similar species: Previously considered Pagurus hirsutiusculus venturensis Coffin 1957, it has now been defined as a distinct species and renamed. It can still be confused with its northern counterpart P. hirsutiusculus, however is usually lighter in coloration, smaller, and less hairy. Additional differences between the two species during larval development are well defined by Crain and Mclaughlin (1993).
Additional look alikes in Southern California include Pagurus samuelis, however it does not posses the red antennae and blue dactyls on the 2nd and 3rd legs characteristic of P. samuelis.Pagurus venturensis is een tienpotigensoort uit de familie van de Paguridae.[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1957 door Coffin.
