Amblyscirtes aenus is resident to the south-central United States in a patchy distribution (Scott 1986). Habitats are open woodland and grassland gulches in the west, woodlands along creeks in the east. Host plant is grass species Uniola latifolia. Individuals overwinter as half-grown larvae. There is a variable number of flights each year depending on latitude, with one flight in the northern part of the range between May 15-June 30, and multiple flights in the most southern part of the range between April 1-Sept. 30 (Scott 1986).
