Coccus is a genus of scale insects in the family Coccidae. Several species, such as Coccus viridis, a major pest of coffee, are major agricultural pests.[1] The type species is Coccus hesperidum Linnaeus.

Koĉo (coccus) estas genro de insektoj, kiuj apartenas al plantaj laŭsoj.

Koĉoj nutras sin suĉante sukon de plantoj; kelkaj koĉaj specioj specialiĝis pri certaj plantaj specioj. Ĉar koĉoj bezonas precipe la albuminojn de la plantoj, ili sekrecias la restantan sukeron.

El la plej konata specio el la koĉoj, coccus cacti (alinome ankaŭ dactylopius coccus) eblas produkti koĉenilon, kiu servas por produktado de karmino. Ĝi estas indiĝena el Meksiko sed importita al Honduraso, Kanariaj Insuloj kaj Alĝerio, ĝi parazitas kaktojn, aparte la opuntiojn.

La alia specio coccus viridis parazitas la kafujojn.
