Amarginops platus[3]​ es una especie de pez actinopeterigio de agua dulce,[4]​ la única del género monotípico Amarginops de la familia de los claroteidos.[5]​ Una especie pescada para consumo humano.[1]​

Morfología

Forma del cuerpo típica de los bagres con una longitud máxima descrita de 17 cm.[6]​

Distribución y hábitat

Se distribuye por ríos y lagos de África,[4]​ como endemismo de los alrededores de las cataratas Boyoma,[7]​ en la localidad de Kisangani (República Democrática del Congo).[6]​ Son peces de agua dulce tropical, de hábitat de tipo demersal, que prefiere las corrientes rápidas.[4]​

Загальна довжина сягає 17 см. Голова широка, помірно масивна. Очі великі. Рот доволі широкий. Верхня губа довша за нижню. Є 3 пари вусів, найдовша, що тягнеться з кутів рота. Тулуб кремезний подовжений. Спинний плавець високий, дуже широкий, з помірною основою. Грудні плавці широкі та довгі, з гострими кінчиками. Черевні плавці витягнуті, з округлими кінчиками, короткою основою. Анальний плавець помірно високий, з короткою основою. Жировий плавець невеличкий. Хвостовий плавець потужний, сильно розрізаний кінчики стирчать у річні боки.

Спосіб життя

Є демерсальною рибою. Зустрічається на швидких ділянках річок. Стосовно активності замало відомостей. Живиться водними безхребетними, рідше дрібною рибою.

Розповсюдження

Мешкає у басейні річки Конго.
