Rexistráronse esporádicamente en Boigu y islles Saibai, dientro del estáu de Queensland al noroeste del territoriu australianu nel estrechu de Torres. Habiten nos cantos del monte, xardinos y árees cultivaes con árboles, zones urbanes y cocoteros.
Aliméntense principalmente de de figos y otros frutos; dacuando complementen la so dieta con inseutos.
Añeren n'árboles buecos, cantiles y edificios, de cutiu en colonies, pola que ye común qu'hayan de 2 a 3 güevos de color azul maciu.
Los sos llamaos son unos repitíos xiblíos agudos.

Adult singing starlings have glossy black plumage and bright red irises. Immature birds are paler, with streaked underparts and brown irises. They are distinguished from metallic starlings by shorter, square tails and thicker bills.
Singing starlings are found in New Guinea and some adjacent islands, the Bismarck Archipelago, Admiralty Islands and Solomon Islands. They have been recorded from Boigu and Saibai Islands, Queensland, Australian territory in north-western Torres Strait. They inhabit forest edges, gardens and cultivated areas with trees, urban areas and coconut groves.
They eat figs and other soft fruits, and sometimes insects.
They nest in tree-hollows, cliffs and buildings, often colonially, laying 2-3 pale blue eggs.
The call is a repeated, high-pitched, down-slurred whistle.
As a species with a large range and no evidence of population decline, it is assessed as being of Least Concern.

De orpheuspurperspreeuw (Aplonis cantoroides) is een spreeuwensoort uit Nieuw-Guinea en de omliggende eilanden.
De orpheuspurperspreeuw is 20 cm lang en geheel zwart met een violetkleurige metaalglans en een korte, rechthoekige staart waarmee hij duidelijk verschilt van de violette purperspreeuw. Onvolwassen vogels zijn van boven donker en van onder wit met duidelijke zwarte strepen. Opvallend zijn de felrode ogen. De vogel komt buiten de broedtijd vaak voor in gemengde groepen met violette purperspreeuwen.
De orpheuspurperspreeuw heeft een kenmerkende zang: een in toonhoogte en geluidssterkte afnemende fluittoon.
De orpheuspurperspreeuw komt voor op Nieuw-Guinea westelijk gelegen eilanden waaronder ook de Aru-eilanden, verder op de Bismarck Archipel, de Louisiaden, Normanby en de Salomonseilanden. Het is een vogel van open landschappen, bij bosranden, heuvellandbos tot op 1500 m boven de zeespiegel, bossen langs de kust en bij menselijke nederzettingen.
De orpheuspurperspreeuw heeft een groot verspreidingsgebied en daardoor alleen al is de kans op uitsterven gering. De grootte van de populatie is niet gekwantificeerd. Er is geen aanleiding te veronderstellen dat de soort in aantal achteruit gaat. Om die redenen staat deze purperspreeuw als niet bedreigd op de Rode Lijst van de IUCN.[1]
