It is native to Acre (Brazil), Pará, Mato Grosso, Amazônia, Santa Catarina, Paraná, Roraima, Minas Gerais, Cerrado, Rondônia, Rio de Janeiro, Mata Atlântica, Pernambuco, Caatinga, Espirito Santo, Paraíba, Amazônia, Bahia, Amapá, and São Paulo. Icecreambean has compound, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Xylocopa darwini Cockerell 1926. Icecreambean fixes nitrogen. It is a photoautotroph. Individuals can grow to 12 m.
