Vriesea platynema is a species of perennial grass in the family bromeliads. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to The Neotropics, Mata Atlântica, Rio Grande Do Sul, Paraná, Santa Catarina, and SãO Paulo. They have simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Dusky-throated Hermit, Saw-billed Hermit, Geoffroy's Tailless Bat, and Ipanema bat.
